Why fishing fleets worked Dogger Bank

Dogger Bank's shallow North Sea geography and former land-bridge terrain explain why Hull trawlers gathered there in 1904.

Notes

Dogger Bank lies in a shallow part of the North Sea. The area once formed part of the land connection between Britain and continental Europe, and the submerged terrain created fertile fishing grounds. Trawlers from Kingston upon Hull routinely worked there. The Russian squadron therefore entered an established civilian working area where a concentration of small craft was entirely ordinary.
