Heavy casualties and a narrow British result

Dogger Bank inflicted exceptional losses for its size, and Holland's sinking after the battle left Britain with a points-style result.

Notes

Reported British losses were 104 killed and 349 wounded. The Dutch reported 142 killed and roughly 400 wounded, making Dogger Bank bloodier than the much larger Battle of the Chesapeake a month later. Unconfirmed estimates put total Dutch casualties as high as 1,100. The documented figures appear more reliable, although Dutch overmanning leaves some uncertainty. The damaged Holland sank after the battle. HMS Belle Poule recovered Holland's colours while they were still flying, and British frigates searched for an opportunity to renew contact. The sinking gave Britain a points-style result, but neither fleet had destroyed the other during the action.
