Chapter ยท 17:11-18:34

A task group distributes capabilities across large and small ships

A mixed task group distributes sensors, weapons, and specialist expertise across ships of different sizes.

Notes

Samantha Carter in Stargate SG-1 illustrates the fictional habit of giving one person almost unlimited scientific and engineering abilities. Naval stories similarly tend to place command and every technical solution aboard one ship. Since the Second World War, task groups have distributed capabilities across several vessels. That requires a mixture of ship sizes because powerful radars and computers still need substantial space. Adding small ships alone cannot replace every function of a larger hull.
