Diesel imports and the limits of domestic refining

Imported refined fuel and imported crude create overlapping dependencies within Britain's diesel supply.

Notes

The estimate places imported finished fuel at about half of British diesel supply. The United States provides roughly 30 percent of that imported share, equivalent to about 15 percent of the total. Changes in overseas markets can therefore affect both availability and price. Domestic refineries also depend on imported oil, so their output does not remove exposure to foreign supplies. The resulting dependency reaches everyday commercial and private fuel use as well as the industry required for rearmament.
