Dido's concentration on weapons made it useful in fleet operations but less suitable for the diplomatic work expected of a conventional cruiser. A preference for the Arethusa class reflects that broader view of what a cruiser should provide. It does not erase Dido's value as a fighting asset in a fleet screen. A personal alternative proposed here is a slightly larger Dido with three octuple pom-pom mounts, two near the waist and one above the after main turrets. This is a suggested redesign, separate from the ships' actual wartime armament.

Dido traded cruiser diplomacy for fleet specialization
The class was effective in combat formations but too tightly packed around weapons to perform the broader presence and diplomatic work expected of a conventional cruiser.
