Maps and diagrams became much more common around ships during the Second World War. Mass mobilisation brought aboard sailors who had little or no previous naval or merchant-marine experience. Diamantina was small but densely packed, with subdivision, duplicated systems, electrical spaces, and narrow routes that could confuse a newcomer. Posted plans let recruits work out their own routes while learning the vessel. The fittings show how ship design and training practices adapted to a rapidly expanded wartime crew.
