Chapter · 28:28-30:18

Devonshire's war ranged from Free French operations to the Eastern Fleet

After Norway, Devonshire supported Operation Menace, received new radar, served with the Eastern Fleet, and returned to European waters before preparing to deploy east again.

Notes

After Norway, Devonshire supported the Free French during Operation Menace and continued an active wartime career. A 1942 visit to Norfolk, Virginia, added Type 273 gunnery radar before she escorted a convoy from Charleston toward Freetown on the way to the Eastern Fleet. She later returned from the Far East to the Home Fleet for the closing phase of the war in Europe, then prepared to deploy east again. Those transfers required refits, convoy escort, and repeated theatre-to-theatre redeployment. Postwar she served mainly as a cadet training ship, joined the 1953 Coronation Fleet Review, and was sold for scrap the following year.
