The German design approximates a Deutschland-class cruiser closely enough for the experiment. The historical ships carried eight 5.9-inch guns in single mounts, four on each side, but the game's construction system does not provide enough usable side space for that arrangement. Centreline twin mounts give the simulation a six-gun broadside and better end-on fire while reducing the total gun count. Diesel propulsion and the other major features remain, but this is the closest workable game representation rather than the historical ship. The altered secondary battery is an important limit on any comparison between the battle and real design choices.

Why the simulated Deutschland battery is approximate
Rebuilding a Deutschland-class cruiser in the game shows how available mounts and deck space can force an ahistorical secondary-gun arrangement.
