A Deutschland that cannot receive a third 11-inch turret still has another option. Replacing scattered single 150-millimeter guns with twin or triple six-inch turrets in superfiring positions and on the beam could produce a broadside of roughly nine six-inch guns while preserving the two triple 11-inch turrets. Fire could then be assigned by distance, with the heavy guns threatening the strongest opponent and the cruiser battery handling closer ships. The ship would become a light-cruiser fighting system with additional long-range overmatch instead of remaining dependent on only two heavy targets at a time.

A six-gun Deutschland needed a stronger cruiser battery
If Germany retained only two 11-inch turrets, proper six-inch secondary turrets could engage cruiser opponents by range and divide the ship's fire more effectively.
