Leaders can become so absorbed in the big picture that they lose the details, context, and nuance needed to understand events. The problem resembles assembling a jigsaw while looking only at the completed image. The overall picture is useful, but the puzzle cannot be built without examining the individual pieces and how they fit. Leaders likewise need to pay attention to the people and small situations from which the organization is formed. Careful observation is a prerequisite for sound high-level judgment.
