Argentina initially ordered four ships each from Britain, France and Germany. The British four were sold to Greece, prompting an additional German order. The first German group reached Argentina before the war, while the second group remained in Germany. The French-built ships also served in the French Navy. Foreign procurement and interrupted deliveries therefore contributed to the large destroyers available to several European fleets.
