Question

Which other destroyer commanders reached flag rank?

Short answer

Sherbrooke is one example, and a fair number advanced from destroyer command to flag rank.

Notes

Sherbrooke is named among the destroyer commanders who did well, alongside the familiar examples of Vian and Mountbatten. A fair number advanced to flag rank, though no complete list is given. Clarke judges Vian's promotion more deserved than Mountbatten's and attributes some of Mountbatten's accelerated advancement to politics.
