Were escort destroyers replenished with torpedoes or depth charges while at sea?
Short answerTorpedo transfers between ships were generally impractical, while depth charges had limited and hazardous workarounds; normal replenishment was at naval stations.
NotesDestroyers generally replenished weapons in harbour rather than transferring them at sea. Ship torpedoes were especially heavy and awkward to move between vessels, although aircraft torpedoes aboard carriers may have been a different case. Crews could stretch ready-use storage to carry more weapons between port visits. Depth charges had an improvised workaround: lower them into a boat with a crew and let the receiving ship collect it while moving. That method imposed severe practical limits because the original ship could not recover the transfer crew.
