Haida's conversion into a stronger air-defence ship

Haida's postwar gun fit shows how experience with aircraft transformed a surface-armed Tribal into a much stronger anti-aircraft unit.

Notes

The 4.7-inch mounting could not follow attacking aircraft at steep angles, exposing a prewar planning focus on capital ships at the expense of convoys and escorts. Haida's later twin four-inch and three-inch weapons provided a stronger answer and made her a more powerful air-defence unit than a converted C-class cruiser in this comparison. Inside the mounting, Peter Dixon explains the difference between a gun mounting and a turret. He also points out a Korean-era separator that raised loading speed by preventing one crew from seeing the adjacent gun recoil.
