Civil War service and deliberate slighting

Denbigh still performs as a defensible fortress during the English Civil War before George Monck orders it put beyond military use.

Notes

Denbigh's military story continued after the medieval revolts. The castle again held out well when besieged during the English Civil War, showing that its commanding site and defences retained practical value. General George Monck later had the fortress slighted so it could not be used in another conflict. Gunpowder was packed into selected structural points, making the surviving ruin the result of deliberate military demolition rather than simple decay.
