Peacekeepers of Sol and Empire Rising receive praise for making communications a practical military problem. Without instantaneous faster-than-light communication, drones carry messages between separated forces. Those messengers can be interfered with or attacked instead of passing safely through every engagement. The resulting delay becomes part of how the fictional forces operate.
