More orbital guns at the Battle of Reach

Extra orbital platforms could defeat an initial attack on Reach, but a larger Covenant fleet would still threaten the planet.

Question

Could hundreds of extra orbital-defense platforms and supporting fleets stop Reach from falling?

Short answer

They could inflict far heavier losses and possibly stop the first fleet, but the much larger follow-up force is still expected to take Reach.

Notes

The proposed reinforcement would impose much heavier Covenant losses and could defeat the first attacking fleet. The difficulty comes with the later concentration of forces from High Charity and other commitments. One contributor describes many thousands of additional warships, including larger vessels whose weapons outrange the defensive super-MACs. Even hundreds of platforms would not fully cover the planet. The reinforcement makes Reach more costly to take without guaranteeing its survival.
