Because the Blackburn shared much of its logistical base with the Dart, a mixed carrier air group could support a specialist flight without wholly separate infrastructure. Continued development might therefore have preserved the role without imposing the full cost of an unrelated aircraft type. An organization already devoted to detecting threats would have had a clear reason to ask for radar once the technology became available. The later use of radar in Swordfish and Albacore aircraft shows that carrier aircraft could carry the equipment even though the dedicated lookout organization remains counterfactual here. Even rudimentary airborne radar could have improved warning against raids and helped aircraft find ships at night or through fog.
