What do you think about Maersk hiring a Danish frigate to help its coastal department?
Short answerDanish frigates are capable choices for coalition or anti-piracy work, but StanFlex accounting makes their costs hard to compare directly with those of other navies.
NotesMaersk has close relationships with the Danish and Dutch governments, and Danish frigates are credible assets for maritime-security work. The Iver Huitfeldt example shows why Danish ships appear cheap: StanFlex weapons and systems are treated as continuing investments rather than one-off ship costs. The Danish approach maintains weapons and systems as capabilities across successive hulls instead of charging every element to one ship purchase. Headline frigate prices therefore cannot be compared without asking which weapons, sensors, and support costs sit outside the hull programme.
