Why Cuxhaven was more than an airship raid

Cuxhaven combined bombing with an early Royal Navy effort to use aerial reconnaissance against Germany's fleet-in-being.

Notes

The Royal Navy committed substantial resources to Cuxhaven only months after war began. Its aircraft gathered intelligence over German anchorages and defenses as well as dropping bombs. The raid formed part of a continuing effort to monitor and pressure a fleet in being. The later fixation on forcing the High Seas Fleet into action intensified a priority that already existed before Jutland.
