Nearly fifty years of Royal Navy service

Cunningham's service from January 1897 to May 1946 lasted almost fifty years and kept him in office long enough to bring the Navy back into peace.

Notes

Cunningham lived from 1883 to 1963 and reached eighty. His naval service ran from 15 January 1897 to May 1946, almost half a century. He remained through the end of the Second World War and carried the Navy into peace before retiring. An anecdote places his death in a London cab while travelling between a club and a station, though the direction of the journey is left uncertain.
