Grounded Culloden can still help the arriving Alexander and Swiftsure avoid the same shoal. Troubridge and his people shout warnings, wave, and make signals as the two ships approach. The fresh ships pass the fighting around Franklin and Tonnant and take positions to engage Orient and nearby opponents. Bellerophon signals that it is disabled after its earlier duel, allowing the newcomers to renew the attack on the French flagship. The changes of station occur during the hour between 8 and 9 p.m.
