Cruisers carried landing forces to remote imperial stations

Royal Marine detachments and an attached Army company let a visiting cruiser bring a meaningful landing force to isolated stations.

Notes

Cruisers visited remote islands with their Royal Marine detachments and an added Army company of roughly 100 men from the Northamptonshire Regiment. The extra soldiers expanded the force available to land from the ships during a port visit or local crisis. Such deployments mattered because imperial authority might appear at an isolated station only when a warship arrived. A cruiser could serve at once as a naval combatant, transport, and visible instrument of policing and presence.
