A divided coalition fights while Europe is already at war

Venice's nominal allies brought uneven commitment, while the Thirty Years' War and commercial incentives limited the help available against the Ottomans.

Notes

Venice's war effort depended on allies with uneven commitments. The Knights of Malta, Papal States, and France offered different mixtures of status, ships, money, and military value, while Spain was absorbed by the Thirty Years' War. English and Dutch mariners could work for the highest bidder, including the Ottoman side. The Barbary states added a loosely controlled but useful Ottoman-aligned maritime force, making the conflict a shifting system of alliances and commercial service rather than a clean religious contest.
