Counterfactual naval history begins with grounded levers

Published scholarship grounds the Sydney scenario and shows why a useful counterfactual must preserve the historical constraints it is meant to test.

Notes

Journal studies of the Singapore Naval Base, imperial strategy, deterrence, and the colonial city ground the scenario instead of leaving it as free-form speculation. Reading across authors remains useful even when their interpretations conflict. Counterfactual history can then examine why the historical strategy took the shape it did. That requires knowing which political, geographic, treaty, financial, and logistical factors can plausibly move. The result separates an evidence-based naval alternative from a story that changes every inconvenient condition.
