Chapter ยท 2:02-2:26

From Flower-class vessel to modern sloop concept

Coreopsis helps explain the First World War roots of the later Royal Navy sloop, even though the class was originally ordered for minesweeping rather than Q-ship duty.

Notes

Coreopsis is an early example of the kind of sloop the Royal Navy developed after the First World War. Q-ship service was one possible use, but it was an adaptation rather than the class's original purpose. The Flower-class vessels were first ordered for minesweeping. A specialist minesweeping requirement produced ships that could later take on Q-ship and other duties.
