Why checking corrections can leave a finished book unread

Jumping between copyediting corrections can leave the complete text unread, even by its author.

Notes

Glynn Stewart admits that he has not read every completed book he has written. At one point, he worked through the copy editor's corrections by jumping directly to the next change, without reading the whole manuscript again. He now reads along with the copy edit so that he has actually read the finished book. He considers the earlier practice less satisfactory in retrospect.
