Copenhagen's garrison, fortifications, and harbour fleet

Copenhagen entered the siege with about 10,000 regulars and militia, substantial fortifications, and most of the Danish fleet sheltered inside the harbour.

Notes

Copenhagen's roughly 10,000 defenders were divided about evenly between regular soldiers and militia. They manned most positions strongly, including a major star fort at the city's northern end. Most of the Danish fleet lay inside the harbour, where the fixed defences were expected to protect it. The arrangement looked formidable on paper, but the ships' concentration inside the capital created the vulnerability the British expedition would exploit.
