Civilian evacuation and the weak relief effort

Britain's politically useful civilian evacuation contrasts with the limited Danish effort that Wellesley's reinforced brigade defeated outside the capital.

Notes

Britain's decision to let civilians leave Copenhagen reduced the number exposed to the bombardment. Allowing the evacuation was both decent and politically sensible. Denmark's military effort to relieve its capital appears limited: Wellesley's well-handled reinforced brigade defeated the relief force without much trouble. The size of the victorious British force raises doubts about how much effort Denmark committed to saving its capital.
