Convoy RA66 faced a U-boat attack during one of the RCN's last major wartime engagements. The convoy's practised zigzagging caused the incoming torpedoes to miss. The escorts counterattacked, with HMS Goodall among the ships engaging the submarines. Two U-boats were sunk, but Goodall was also lost. The convoy otherwise passed through without losses, demonstrating the combination of merchant-ship manoeuvre and escort counterattack.
