Container weapons have more practical uses when the required equipment is relatively small. The proposal combines chaff, electronic-warfare equipment or a close-in weapon in a 20-foot container. Such packages could give merchant ships their own defensive layer during a convoy passage. The Red Sea example is a suggested use of that equipment, with Phalanx offered as a possible gun system.
