Where the modernized Kongo class fits

The Kongos began on the battlecruiser side of the spectrum but may have crossed slightly into fast-battleship territory after reconstruction. The scale of the work changed more than their official label or headline speed. This placement is a reasoned judgment rather than a rigid fact because the two categories become difficult to separate near the center of the spectrum. Historians can reasonably disagree about how much weight each modification deserves.
