Conde de Venadito's sorties from Havana

The class repeatedly sortied against American vessels around Havana, showing courage but little ability to control the fight.

Notes

Conde de Venadito operated with other small Spanish vessels in reactions to American gunboats around Havana during May and June 1898. The Spanish ships repeatedly left harbour and attempted to challenge the attackers, demonstrating determination despite their limited combat power. When they withdrew or backed away from the American batteries and ships, their pressure disappeared and the opposing vessels could enter. These sorties demanded courage, but the class had been built for presence duties and could not control a fight against stronger vessels.
