A company landing team needs its own mobility and fire support once ashore. Helicopters can insert reconnaissance elements and move people quickly, but the team should not depend on them for every movement. Amphibious armoured personnel carriers provide organic mobility, while integral fire support keeps small dispersed groups from becoming hollow symbols. Several company groups must also be capable of recombining as a commando or brigade for Norway, the Arctic, the Falklands, or another larger crisis. The defining amphibious skill is to land organised and ready to fight immediately rather than spend a day reconstituting an ordinary formation on shore.
