Commonwealth fleets, bases and the 1930s comparison

A wartime fleet comparison explains why cruisers mattered to Australia and how Canada once operated a much larger, more varied navy.

Notes

The video uses Commonwealth basing and 1930s naval inventories to set the modern Type 26 question in historical context. Australian cruisers offered visible firepower and self-contained presence without the cost of capital ships. Tribal-class destroyers, sloops and smaller auxiliaries supplemented that cruiser-centred structure. Canada's wartime force is shown as much larger and more varied than its present fleet, including aviation assets as well as escorts.
