Sea Fury service reveals an integrated Commonwealth Fleet Air Arm

Canadian squadrons received the British-built Sea Fury first because Commonwealth naval aviation still operated as a closely integrated force.

Notes

Canadian 803 Squadron became the first operational Sea Fury unit, ahead of a Royal Navy squadron, because aircraft allocation followed operational need across an integrated Commonwealth system. The episode shows British, Canadian, Australian, Dutch, and other allied naval aviation sharing aircraft types and support arrangements. A stronger common British carrier force could therefore have reduced costs and made it easier for Canada and Australia to retain their own carrier arms. Sea Furies rapidly displaced Seafires and continued overseas after British front-line service, including Canadian use to 1956, Dutch use to 1957, Burmese use to 1968, and West German target towing into the 1970s.
