Victory leaves the commerce war unresolved

Surviving Castilian ships resumed attacks from French ports, while English raiders struck French cargoes and the Gascon trade remained contested.

Notes

The English did not pursue every surviving Castilian ship after the battle. Those vessels reached French ports, wintered at Sluys, and returned to sea the following spring. Their later attacks still disrupted trade with Gascony, although less severely than before Winchelsea. English ships simultaneously conducted piracy against French cargoes, so commerce raiding remained reciprocal rather than ending with one royal victory. The aftermath distinguishes a successful fleet action from permanent command of the sea.
