Wessel's aggressive cruising did more than secure prizes. Sweden depended on transports to supply its continental possessions in Pomerania, Germany, and Poland during the Great Northern War. By cutting ships out of fjords, capturing prizes, and threatening detached frigates, he attacked the logistics that sustained the wider Swedish war effort. The results brought promotion to captain-lieutenant in 1712 and made him troublesome enough for Sweden to post a reward for his capture.
