Chapter · 1:31:38-1:33:33

Command intent for teams beyond communication and resupply

Because off-world teams may lose communication and resupply, Hammond must build trust and explain intent clearly enough for independent action.

Notes

Hammond works through officers and NCOs whose judgment he trusts, but off-world operations make those relationships unusually important. Teams may be unable to communicate, request clarification, or receive timely support once deployed. Personal briefings therefore transmit not only objectives but the commander's intent, giving subordinates a basis for independent decisions while leaving Hammond accountable for the mission he authorized. His rare personal deployments follow the same logic, occurring when a mission needs more senior authority than any cleared colonel can supply.
