Combined threats overload defenses from 1940 to today

Atlantic convoy defense and modern missile warfare illustrate why layered attacks are harder to defeat than a superior weapon used alone.

Notes

Even advanced Type XXI submarines would remain a single-dimensional problem that growing numbers of improved escorts, including newer frigates, could address. The modern analogy uses hypersonic missiles: the more dangerous scenario combines them with conventional missiles and submarine-launched torpedoes. Defenders can orient sensors and weapons against one attack type, while simultaneous threats from several domains demand far more force and can overwhelm the system. Threat diversity matters more here than the isolated performance of a single weapon.
