A 1929 submarine war forces Japan to learn ASW early

If submarines cause Japanese losses in the hypothetical 1929 war, the experience could redirect construction toward ASW vessels.

Notes

The counterfactual war would give navies a new body of combat experience roughly a decade after the First World War. Its procurement effects depend on which weapons cause the losses. If Chinese submarines inflict the damage, Japanese planners have a direct reason to reconsider their response to submarines. Large numbers of ASW vessels are one possible result. This depends on the imagined conduct of the war and does not describe Japan's actual interwar building programme.
