The American-built Colony-class frigates behind HMS Tobago

HMS Tobago connects colonial ship names with frigates whose design passed from Britain to America and back.

Notes

HMS Tobago belonged to the Colony-class frigates, British-operated ships built in American yards. Their design came from the Tacoma class, itself an Americanized version of the British River class. The armament included three single three-inch guns, twin 40 mm mounts, single 20 mm guns, a Hedgehog projector, and depth-charge equipment. Tobago and the cruiser Trinidad gave the colony's two names to different types of warship.
