What a two-man Cockle Mark II carried

A folding canvas canoe carried two Marines, eight limpet mines, navigation and repair gear, six days of supplies, a pistol, and a fighting knife.

Notes

The fifteen-foot Cockle Mark II had to collapse for movement inside a submarine yet carry roughly 480 pounds. Spare paddles, a sounding reel, camouflage, explosives, and a magnet for holding alongside a target show how self-contained each pair had to be. Six days of food and water had to share the limited load with eight limpet mines, grenades, a .45-calibre Colt 1911 pistol, and a Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife. The same knife served with the SAS, SBS, Chindits, Parachute Regiment, and Special Service Brigade, placing the small detachment within a wider British special-operations culture.
