Cochrane and Beckwith pressed the War Office to send at least one regiment regarded as a crack formation. They used the supplies obtained for that unit to train the regiment and the colonial marines. The rest of the expeditionary troops also underwent preparation before Guadeloupe. Resources secured for one regular formation therefore improved the locally assembled amphibious force more broadly.
