Could attackers bypass a coastal battery by landing elsewhere?

Fifteen-inch coastal guns are proposed with enough elevation and traverse to engage troops landing away from the main battery.

Question

Could an enemy land away from the heavy coastal guns and approach them overland?

Short answer

The proposal uses the range, elevation and traverse of fifteen-inch guns to fire on other landing areas and concentrations of troops.

Notes

Landing beyond the obvious battery raises the problem of an attack from inland. The proposed response uses fifteen-inch guns capable of elevating to about 45 degrees and turning toward other landing areas. Their range would allow shells to fall onto troop concentrations without requiring armour penetration. The proposal belongs to the hypothetical island defence and does not identify a particular historical mounting.
