Chapter · 1:14:39-1:16:20

A multinational boarding battle around Husayn's flagship

Gujarati soldiers, Ethiopian and Turkish archers, Portuguese infantry, and matchlock crews fought in a close boarding action around Amir Husayn's flagship.

Notes

Espírito Santo grappled Amir Husayn's flagship and nearly took it before another Mamluk carrack joined from the opposite side. Gujarati troops proved capable of overwhelming heavily armoured Portuguese infantry until Rio Grande arrived with reinforcements. Ethiopian and Turkish bowmen in the coalition rigging fought Portuguese matchlock crews, revealing the multinational character of the battle. The coalition's mercenaries nevertheless faced unfamiliar firepower while Husayn's shortage of money and cannon weakened their staying power.
