Replacing coal boilers with small modular reactors

Replacing coal-fired boilers with small modular reactors is proposed as a cheaper route than building an entirely new nuclear power station.

Notes

One proposed investment would replace the coal-fired boilers at existing power plants with small modular reactors. A Wisconsin pilot programme is cited in support of the idea. The expected advantage is a lower cost than building a completely new nuclear station. A similar approach is proposed for Britain, while acknowledging that implementation there would be more complicated.
