Claymore's demolition party exposed a command gap

Uncertain attachments inside the naval demolition party may explain why its plan to capture Hamburg never reached the destroyers.

Notes

The exact composition of Claymore's naval demolition party is harder to reconstruct than the standard personnel list suggests. Specialists from the Royal Marines Boom Patrol Detachment or other small organizations may have been attached to gain experience and assist the raid. One suggested explanation is that these additions blurred responsibility for communicating the party's hope of capturing the refrigerated factory ship Hamburg. Everyone appears to have assumed someone else had warned the destroyers, so Tartar treated the large enemy vessel as a target and destroyed an asset Britain could have used.
