Clapp and Thompson made dual command work

The naval-land command relationship depended on personal trust between Michael Clapp and Julian Thompson.

Notes

Amphibious doctrine could draw organizational lines, but the commodore and brigadier still had to work in close partnership. In 1982 Michael Clapp and Julian Thompson brought an established friendship to that relationship. Captain Jeremy Larken aboard HMS Fearless added another experienced officer who later became a vice admiral. Their personal trust helped the naval and landing-force commanders cooperate despite the structure's inherent duality.
