Surviving Centaur LPHs could reshape the Invincible class

Long-lived Centaur conversions could expand Harrier use and encourage larger Invincibles with flexible troop or hangar decks.

Question

How would converted Centaur-class ships be used if they survived into the 1970s?

Short answer

They would remain LPHs, probably operate Harriers, and could inspire a larger, more amphibious Invincible design.

Notes

A complete helicopter conversion could give Albion and Bulwark roughly another decade of useful life, although the 1960s defense reviews and east-of-Suez policy would determine whether that life was funded. If the ships survived as helicopter assault carriers, they could also operate Harriers and normalize a larger naval V/STOL force. More Sea Harriers and enduring amphibious hulls would strengthen the case for buying additional Invincibles. Their example might also push Invincible toward a longer hull and a lower flexible deck usable for Marines, stores, or additional aircraft.
